The Best Multi-Currency Accounts in Kuwait in 2026

Why trust usDisclosure
Table of Contents

Nomo is my top pick for a qualifying Kuwait resident who needs six balances, international receiving details and one linked debit card.

Wise offers broader foreign-currency holding without a monthly fee, although Kuwait residents cannot order a new Wise card or add KWD directly.

Boubyan, NBK and Burgan cover local foreign-currency banking, while Commercial Bank's prepaid card suits multi-country travel spending.

Multi-currency options work differently in Kuwait

Kuwait residents can choose an offshore multi-currency account, separate local foreign-currency bank accounts or a prepaid travel wallet.

The currency count alone does not reveal whether you can receive money, fund from KWD or spend directly from each balance.

At a glance

I think these are the best multi-currency account options right now:

  • Six balances with one card: Nomo

  • Broad foreign-currency holding: Wise

  • Local foreign-currency holding with a small opening deposit: Boubyan

  • Conventional USD or GBP current account: NBK

  • Interest on a larger foreign-currency balance: Burgan

  • Thirteen prepaid travel wallets: Commercial Bank of Kuwait

Best multi-currency accounts for people in Kuwait

Nomo

Nomo combines six spendable currencies with international receiving details for eligible residents.

Key information

Nomo

Type

Offshore UK digital bank account

Currencies

GBP, USD, EUR, KWD, AED and SAR

Eligibility

Age 16+ and either KWD1,600.000 monthly income, KWD22,800.000 net worth, or student status

Funding and receiving

Shared IBAN with international receipt and payment details

Card access

One debit card linked to the six funded accounts

Ongoing costs

£5 monthly unless an exemption applies

The monthly charge becomes £60 each year when your relationship balance stays below £1,000 equivalent and no other exemption applies.

A virtual card is free, while the first physical card costs £10 when combined current-account balances remain below £3,000.

Matching-currency card routing makes Nomo more useful for spending than local accounts without a clear foreign-balance card link.

Local-route international payments cost £0.30 or the applicable currency equivalent, while a KWD SWIFT payment with shared charges costs KWD2.200.

The exchange rate can include a partner margin, and intermediary or recipient charges can still reduce an international payment.

Nomo is a trading name of UK bank BLME, with eligible deposits covered by FSCS up to £120,000 per person across that bank.

Wise

Wise works well for holding many currencies if you already have a supported funding route.

Key information

Wise Account

Type

International payment account

Currencies

More than 40

Eligibility

Kuwait residents can hold money

Funding and receiving

Supported foreign-currency routes, no direct KWD add-money option

Card access

New Wise cards are unavailable to Kuwait residents

Ongoing costs

No monthly fee, separate conversion and transfer charges

Wise gives Kuwait residents much broader holding than local banks, but it cannot replace a KWD salary account by default.

You cannot add KWD directly, so converting dinars through your Kuwaiti bank first can add bank FX costs and an international-transfer charge.

Account details are available only for supported currencies and eligible customers, with the exact options shown inside the account.

The card restriction removes the everyday travel-spending benefit available to Nomo or Commercial Bank's prepaid product.

I would use Wise for supported foreign income that avoids that initial KWD conversion, with each onward conversion or payment priced separately.

Wise is not a Kuwaiti bank deposit, so Kuwait's local bank guarantee should not be applied to its balances.

Boubyan Foreign Currency Account

Boubyan offers USD, GBP and EUR accounts with a KWD50 opening deposit.

Key information

Boubyan Foreign Currency Account

Type

Separate local foreign-currency deposit account

Currencies

USD, GBP or EUR

Eligibility

Individual aged 18 or over

Funding and receiving

Account opening and management through Boubyan app

Card access

Confirm whether a card debits the selected balance

Ongoing costs

KWD50.000 opening deposit, no minimum-balance fee

The low opening amount makes Boubyan more accessible than Burgan's KWD1,000.000 equivalent threshold for interest-bearing balances.

No minimum-balance fee keeps the holding cost simple, but it does not make wires, cash handling or currency conversion free.

The account is held as a separate USD, GBP or EUR balance rather than one card wallet pooling all three currencies.

I would choose Boubyan for local-bank custody of a core currency, then request the selected service tariff before receiving or sending money.

NBK Current Account

NBK combines local current accounts with Visa debit card access.

Key information

NBK Current Account

Type

Separate local current account

Currencies

KWD, USD or GBP

Eligibility

Customer aged 21 or over

Funding and receiving

Current-account receipts and online banking

Card access

NBK Visa debit card

Ongoing costs

KWD500.000 opening amount, no ongoing minimum-balance fee

The KWD500.000 entry amount is ten times Boubyan's, making NBK less appealing when the goal is simply holding a small foreign balance.

Its debit card and current-account functions suit regular banking, but the card does not automatically guarantee same-currency spending from USD or GBP.

Foreign-currency card transactions can convert to KWD at NBK's selling spot rate plus a markup of up to 2.75%.

That possible markup makes confirmation of the card's debit currency essential before using the account for travel purchases.

I would use NBK when conventional current-account access is more useful than a broad wallet or interest-bearing savings balance.

Burgan Daily Investment Account

Burgan pays interest on larger USD, EUR and GBP balances.

Key information

Burgan Daily Investment Account

Type

Separate interest-bearing account

Currencies

KWD, USD, EUR or GBP

Eligibility

Individuals and companies

Funding and receiving

Bank deposits, withdrawals and international transfers

Card access

Confirm card linkage for the selected currency

Ongoing costs

KWD1,000.000 or equivalent opening and interest threshold

Interest accrues daily and is paid quarterly, which makes Burgan distinct from Boubyan's lower-entry holding account.

The KWD1,000.000 equivalent threshold is a poor fit when the balance will remain small or move frequently for travel.

Digital banking supports transfers and conversion, while the account still needs current wire, exchange and recipient-bank costs checked per transaction.

I would choose Burgan for money expected to remain in currency long enough for the interest feature to be useful.

Commercial Bank Multi-Currency Prepaid Mastercard

Commercial Bank lets you preload 13 travel currencies onto one Mastercard.

Key information

Commercial Bank Multi-Currency Prepaid Mastercard

Type

Prepaid travel card

Currencies

13 foreign-currency wallets

Eligibility

Existing prepaid-card user meeting bank controls

Funding and receiving

Loaded from a KWD credit balance, no bank-transfer receiving details

Card access

One prepaid Mastercard across the wallets

Ongoing costs

KWD15.000 issue and KWD15.000 annual renewal

You need at least KWD20.000 on the prepaid card before opening a foreign-currency wallet in the app.

Loading locks the bank's offered exchange rate, which controls future card spending but does not prove a zero-margin conversion.

The card works for planned travel and ATM access, while it cannot receive salary or an international bank wire.

KFH's alternative uses one card per selected currency and costs KWD10.000 annually for each card, rather than combining wallets.

Commercial Bank becomes cheaper on annual card fees once you would otherwise need two KFH currency cards, before comparing exchange and ATM costs.

Keep income in the currency you will use

If you receive GBP and expect to pay UK tuition, keeping pounds can avoid converting into dinars and back again.

That benefit depends on the receiving instructions, because a payment sent to the wrong currency account may trigger an automatic conversion.

Ask the sender to use the account details for that currency, including any intermediary-bank instructions needed for the payment.

For money starting as KWD, compare the cost of funding an overseas account with converting directly through your Kuwaiti bank.

Our guide to the best international money transfer services in Kuwait covers one-off overseas payments that do not require holding balances.

Compare the full cost before moving your balance

An opening deposit remains your money, whereas an issuance fee or annual card charge is a cost you cannot spend later.

If a bank pays interest, compare the expected return with incoming-wire fees and the cost of eventually converting or withdrawing the balance.

For example, a one-percentage-point difference in conversion cost equals KWD10.000 on a KWD1,000.000 conversion, before other charges.

That illustrates why the quoted exchange rate can outweigh a small difference in annual account or card fees.

For travel, load only the currencies you expect to spend, because converting unused balances back into dinars can incur another exchange margin.

Understand which protection applies

Eligible deposits at local Kuwaiti banks fall within Kuwait's statutory guarantee for original deposits, including savings and current balances.

Do not assume a prepaid card or offshore account has that local guarantee, and deposit protection does not reimburse exchange-rate losses.

Wise Payments Limited is an FCA-authorised electronic money institution, safeguarding customer money separately from its own operating funds.

Its ordinary balances have no bank-deposit insurance, including FSCS coverage, unlike eligible deposits held with BLME through Nomo.

How to open and fund a multi-currency account

Define the account job

Choose whether you need international receiving, foreign savings, card spending or interest on a larger balance.

Check eligibility

Confirm age, income, wealth, student or existing-bank requirements before starting an application.

Match currencies to functions

Verify which currencies can be held, received externally and spent directly through the account's card.

Compare action costs

Add monthly fees, exchange margins, card costs, wire charges and possible intermediary deductions for your expected use.

Fund the account

Use an accepted own-name route, then confirm the credited currency and conversion rate before committing the payment.

Our methodology & why trust us

I compare eligibility, currencies, KWD funding, receiving details, card routing and each account's ongoing and transaction costs.

Final eligibility, exchange rates and action-specific charges remain subject to the bank or account's checks before you fund it.

We may earn commission from some companies, but commercial arrangements do not influence company positions or what we write.

Some services on the list are based on our research rather than internal testing.
