I suggest Wise for overseas bank payments using the mid-market rate, provided you meet its citizenship requirement and monthly peso-funding limit.

For an eligible Santander customer, its commission-free international app transfers deserve a matching quote, while Western Union offers cash collection abroad.

Revolut's Mexican bank adds another locally funded app option, and BBVA or Banorte can suit a payment from an account you already hold.

Wise requires Mexican citizenship and a valid INE for peso funding, with a bank-funded limit of MXN80,000 per calendar month.

Santander removes its personal app's international sending commission, but its exchange rate and any receiving charges still affect the total cost.

For cash pickup, Western Union lets you fund through SPEI, a card or cash at a participating sending agent.

Revolut Standard supports international payments from Mexico, while its separate Básica account does not include that transfer facility.

My reviews of the transfer services

Wise

Bank transfers using the mid-market exchange rate

In my opinion, Wise suits bank payments at the mid-market rate, provided its citizenship requirement and monthly funding limit fit your transfer.

There is an important eligibility restriction, because funding a transfer in MXN requires Mexican citizenship and a valid INE.

You must pay from your own personal bank account within Mexico, so foreign residents cannot assume that a Mexican account is enough.

Wise uses the mid-market exchange rate and charges a separate transfer fee, which varies with your destination, amount and payment details.

That gives you a way to compare the currency conversion against a bank quote without treating the sending commission as the whole price.

Bank-funded transfers in pesos are limited to MXN80,000 per calendar month, which can rule Wise out for larger payments or several transfers together.

Funding can arrive quickly, but conversion may take two working days before the destination’s delivery time is added.

My suggestion is to check that monthly limit before choosing Wise for tuition or a larger payment, especially if you have already sent money that month.

The Mexican transfer company is Wise Pagos Mexico, with money-transmitter registration authorised in March 2026 and supervision by the CNBV.

Revolut Mexico

International payments from a Mexican bank account

Revolut operates through a Mexican bank, making it an option for eligible adult Mexican nationals who want international payments alongside a locally funded account.

I think it is worth considering if the recipient also uses Revolut, but you should compare the separate price for a transfer to an external bank.

Opening an account requires Mexican nationality, Mexican residence, a valid INE and an age of at least eighteen, so foreign residents should not assume eligibility.

The free Standard plan supports international transfers, but the separate Básica account does not, so choosing the right account is essential.

You can fund your account by bank transfer using its local details, including MXN transfers through SPEI from another Mexican bank.

External international transfers have destination-currency charges, with a maximum sending commission of MXN1,000 before applicable VAT rather than a flat charge of that amount.

Currency conversion can add to the price, and banks involved in an international payment may charge fees outside Revolut’s control.

For that reason, I suggest comparing the final app quote with Wise or an eligible Santander transfer before deciding which account to use.

Revolut’s European plan allowances should not be applied to the Mexican account, since this product has its own terms and commission schedule.

The account is provided by Revolut Bank, a Mexican institution licensed to operate as a bank, rather than the European banking entity.

Western Union

Cash pickup when your recipient needs cash

Western Union is my pick here when the recipient needs to collect cash, since the bank-transfer options require an overseas account.

You can send from the Mexican app and choose cash pickup or bank delivery, with mobile-wallet delivery available in some destinations.

Payment options include SPEI or a debit or credit card, and you can start a transfer in the app before paying cash at a participating agent.

That combination also helps when you need to pay in cash yourself, although you should confirm that the chosen location handles sending.

A location that pays incoming remittances in Mexico does not necessarily send money abroad, so I suggest checking before travelling there.

The app’s identity checks include an INE or IFE, a selfie and proof of address, which foreign residents should check before signing up.

Western Union’s price includes its exchange rate as well as any transfer charge, and delivery depends on the destination and receiving method.

A credit card can also trigger your issuer’s cash-advance charges or interest, making debit or SPEI funding worth comparing first.

Share the transfer’s MTCN with your recipient, then check the collection location’s opening hours and identification requirements before treating the money as available.

Santander Mexico

No sending commission through the personal app

Santander is a strong option for existing eligible customers because its personal app removes the bank’s international sending commission.

My suggestion is to compare its final exchange rate against a transfer app, particularly for smaller payments where a fixed bank fee takes a larger share.

You need an active level-4 Santander account in pesos, mobile banking enabled and an active SuperToken to authorise the payment.

The transfer is charged to your MXN account, with seven destination currencies available, including US dollars, euros and pounds sterling.

You will also need the beneficiary’s account details and their bank’s SWIFT or ABA code, along with the other information requested in the app.

Santander removed the app’s sending commission in October 2025, but a zero commission does not mean currency conversion has no cost.

The app shows the exchange rate and total pesos to be debited before confirmation, so use that amount when comparing another quote.

The recipient’s bank can affect delivery, with the estimated window running from minutes to as much as 72 business hours.

I suggest using the app quote to assess the full payment, while checking whether the overseas bank will deduct anything before crediting your recipient.

BBVA Mexico

BBVA includes yuan and soles in online bank payments

BBVA suits customers who already keep their money there and want to pay an overseas bank through their existing app or internet banking.

Its personal digital sending commission fell to US$10 per operation in April 2025, giving existing customers a lower fixed charge than before.

I suggest comparing the total pesos required against Santander or Wise, since the exchange rate can outweigh the difference between sending commissions.

BBVA’s personal internet-banking service supports nine international payment currencies, including Chinese yuan and Peruvian soles alongside US dollars and euros.

That makes it worth considering when the recipient’s bank expects a currency outside Santander’s seven-currency selection, provided BBVA supports the specific payment.

You need the overseas bank details required for the transfer, and the recipient should confirm the account’s currency before you authorise conversion.

The US$10 figure is the sending commission, with applicable tax and any intermediary or receiving-bank charges considered separately from that headline amount.

The transfer also uses BBVA’s exchange rate, so my suggestion is to compare the final recipient amount rather than choosing it from the fee alone.

For an existing account holder, keeping the payment within BBVA avoids setting up another service, but that convenience should justify any difference in the quote.

Banorte

Same-day destination-bank arrival for US and Canadian dollars

Banorte is worth considering for existing customers sending US or Canadian dollars, because those payments can reach the destination bank the same day.

That timing refers to arrival at the receiving bank, so I suggest confirming the recipient’s expected credit time before using it for a deadline.

Other supported currencies have a stated 48-hour destination-bank window, making the currency choice relevant when you need the payment processed quickly.

Banorte Móvil supports international bank transfers in nine currencies, including euros, pounds sterling, Australian dollars and Norwegian kroner alongside US and Canadian dollars.

The sending fee is US$30 plus VAT regardless of the amount, which makes small family payments harder to justify against lower-fee alternatives.

Intermediary banks may deduct additional charges, and Banorte’s currency conversion should be included when comparing the pesos needed for the payment.

You must register the international beneficiary with their bank and account information, including the relevant SWIFT or ABA details before sending.

There is a 30-minute wait after registering a new beneficiary, so leave time for this before your first payment becomes urgent.

My suggestion is to keep Banorte in the comparison for a time-sensitive dollar payment, while checking that its bank-arrival estimate and full cost fit the recipient’s needs.

Choose a service you can fund from Mexico

Citizenship and residence can change the options

Wise's peso funding requires Mexican citizenship, so living in Mexico with a local bank account does not by itself meet that requirement.

If you cannot use that service, check the opening and document requirements of another eligible app or your Mexican bank before planning the payment.

For a foreign resident, a bank branch can confirm the accepted passport and residency documents for the account and international-transfer facility you need.

My suggestion is to settle that eligibility first, rather than rely on a quote that appears before identity checks have been completed.

SPEI funds the service rather than crossing the border

A domestic SPEI payment can move pesos from your Mexican account to an eligible transfer company's local funding account.

The company then handles the international payment, so paying to a CLABE does not mean your overseas recipient needs a Mexican account.

Use the funding details and reference supplied for your transfer, checking the beneficiary name before paying from your own bank account.

For a funding problem, keep the SPEI receipt separate from the international tracking reference because they describe different parts of the payment.

Check the currency the recipient actually needs

For a US bank payment, confirm whether the account needs dollars and whether the instructions specify ACH or an international wire.

Those receiving methods can have different details and costs, so use the instructions for the method your chosen company supports.

For Spain, the UK or Canada, agree the account currency before sending rather than leave an unintended conversion to the receiving bank.

If a university, property purchase or other bill requires an exact amount, ask whether intermediary or receiving charges can reduce the money arriving.

Banks and cash services offer different access

An app quote is only relevant when you can fund it and your recipient can use the receiving method, which is why banks and cash services remain in this shortlist.

For a bank wire, compare the bank's exchange rate and sending charge together, including any applicable tax on that charge and possible intermediary deductions.

A familiar bank can still cost more for conversion, so an existing account relationship should not replace checking the final payment cost.

For cash, confirm that the chosen counter sends money abroad rather than only paying out incoming remittances to Mexico.

A Western Union collection location appearing in a search does not establish that the same location accepts your outbound payment or funding method.

Keep the recipient's collection point and opening hours in mind, particularly when they need money before a weekend or local holiday.

How to send money abroad from Mexico

Confirm your eligibility and funding method

Check whether the service accepts your citizenship or residency documents, then confirm how you can fund the payment from your Mexican account or cash.

Agree the receiving details

Confirm the recipient's registered name, destination currency and bank or cash-collection instructions, using the details for the supported receiving method.

Compare the full cost

Use the same peso budget when comparing the final amount received, including the exchange rate, sending fee and other applicable bank charges.

Prepare identification and payment evidence

Have accepted identification available and keep source-of-funds documents ready for a larger payment, particularly when a property sale explains the balance.

Pay and follow the correct reference

Save the domestic funding receipt and international tracking reference, then use the company's official support if the payment needs additional information.

Find an option for your payment

For a price-focused decision, the cheapest ways to send money abroad from Mexico examines the fee and conversion costs separately from account access.

If you need to keep foreign balances between payments, multi-currency accounts in Mexico covers holding money and spending or receiving it later.

Enter the destination and amount below, then confirm the service's current Mexico-origin eligibility and funding conditions before paying.

Our methodology & why trust us

I selected locally available regulated services for personal outbound payments, checking Mexican account eligibility rather than treating incoming remittance coverage as sending support.

Our live results were checked across six destinations, with official product terms used separately to verify the ranked companies and bank services.

Live comparison coverage is narrower than the full shortlist, so bank and counter options need their own matching quote rather than an assumed online price.

The reviews assess funding, recipient access, total cost and support, with current Mexican terms taking priority over another country's product or an older forum account.
