My reviews of the money transfer services
Wise
Mid-market bank payments funded through iDEAL
I'd say consider Wise for bank payments combining the mid-market rate with iDEAL funding from a Dutch account, provided its final quote suits your payment.
Its mid-market exchange rate and separate transfer fee make the bank-funded quote easier to compare with a Dutch bank's currency conversion.
I suggest choosing the receiving method first, then comparing the cost and delivery estimate for that exact combination.
A cash collection quote can differ from a bank deposit even when you send the same euro amount to the same country.
Some routes offer Express and Economy choices, allowing you to compare the price of a quicker payment with a less urgent transfer.
The estimate still depends on funding, transaction checks and the receiving system, so do not promise your family a fixed arrival time before confirmation.
Remitly's first-transfer offers can reduce the cost of trying the service, but they do not establish the price of your next payment.
Check the normal exchange rate as well as the fee when deciding where to send regular family support.
For an ordinary euro payment within SEPA, I suggest checking your existing Dutch bank before adding a separate remittance service.
Revolut
For existing users making smaller weekday exchanges
Revolut is a good fit when you already use the account and have part of your monthly exchange allowance left.
Standard includes €1,000 of monthly exchanges before its excess fee applies, which can reduce the conversion charge on smaller weekday payments.
Bank deposits and cash collection are also available on selected routes, so check the receiving options for your family's country.
The app focuses on remittance destinations, which gives it a different role from a service used for general overseas bank payments.
For most markets, the cost sits in the exchange-rate margin without a separate transfer fee, while some destinations have a fixed charge.
A transfer labelled without a fee still needs comparing by the final amount the recipient gets, particularly for repeated monthly support.
If the recipient will withdraw money from a mobile wallet, check whether that wallet charges separately for taking out cash.
Those local charges can change which receiving method gives your family more money to spend.
Taptap Send's European service is regulated through its Belgian payment institution, and verification or receiving limits can affect the payment you arrange.
TransferGo
Payments to an eligible bank card
TransferGo supports payments to eligible bank cards as well as bank accounts, giving you another way to reach a recipient where that option is available.
I'd say consider it when card delivery fits the recipient, then check whether the available funding method and delivery time justify the total cost.
Its pricing includes an exchange-rate margin and payment-method charges, so compare the amount delivered rather than relying on a low headline fee.
A card-funded payment can cost differently from one funded through a bank transfer, even when the recipient and amount stay the same.
Delivery options depend on the route, and an estimate for a faster service still requires funding and any necessary verification to be completed.
Bank holidays can also affect the standard delivery option, making the date you arrange the transfer relevant to the recipient's deadline.
TransferGo offers bank or card delivery where supported, but you should confirm the receiving method before assuming it covers your recipient's account.
Its EU personal service is provided by UAB TransferGo Lithuania, a licensed electronic-money institution, with customer funds safeguarded separately.
My suggestion is to compare it alongside the other available quotes, without treating one positive route or occasional promotion as proof of lower prices everywhere.
Western Union
Pay cash at a participating sending agent
Western Union suits a sender who wants to pay at an agent or a recipient who needs to collect cash.
You can also arrange a transfer online from the Netherlands and use iDEAL/Wero or another available funding method instead of visiting an agent.
The service offers bank deposits and selected mobile-wallet payments, although cash access is why I suggest considering it over a bank-payment app.
For an agent-funded payment, confirm the opening hours and accepted identification before setting aside time to visit.
The recipient needs the correct collection details, including the tracking number and a name that matches their identification.
Cash availability depends on the receiving location, its hours and any checks, so a general claim of delivery in minutes is not a guarantee.
I'd say compare the online and agent quotes separately, because the same amount and destination can have different prices through each channel.
Western Union earns money from currency conversion as well as charging transfer fees, which means a low fee alone does not establish a low total cost.
Its Dutch online service is provided by the Austrian-regulated Western Union International Bank, with the available payout options set by the destination.
Currencies Direct
For larger bank payments with an account manager
Currencies Direct suits a larger overseas bank payment when you want an account manager to help with the payment details and timing.
I'd say consider it for a property payment or another substantial transfer, where discussing the process can be more valuable than choosing solely from an app quote.

Bank transfer
You can arrange payments online, through the app or by phone, with euro funding through the supported bank-payment instructions.
That gives you a way to discuss the transfer before sending a large sum, rather than relying entirely on the smallest headline sending fee.
Currencies Direct does not charge its own separate transfer fee, but the exchange-rate margin still contributes to the total cost.
Ask how much will reach the receiving bank and whether any charges outside Currencies Direct could reduce that amount.
My suggestion is to compare that final quote with a bank-funded app transfer using the same euro amount and receiving currency.
The account manager does not make the exchange rate automatically better, and a small transfer may not need this level of assistance.
Its EU service is provided by Currencies Direct Spain, an electronic-money institution authorised by the Bank of Spain, rather than a Dutch bank.

Choose how the money should arrive
A euro payment can be simpler than currency conversion
For a euro payment to an eligible SEPA account, I suggest checking your existing bank before opening a separate transfer account.
ABN AMRO supports euro transfers within SEPA, while a payment in another currency or outside that area uses its international-transfer service.
Sending money to an EU country does not automatically mean paying in euros, particularly when the recipient wants Polish zloty rather than a euro balance.
Agree the receiving currency before sending, so a second conversion at the recipient's bank does not change the price you expected.
Match family payments to the receiving method
For a bank account abroad, compare services that support the required destination currency and account details, using the same euro budget.
For a recipient using mobile money or collecting cash, select that delivery method before comparing the rate and transfer fee.
The fastest bank deposit does not necessarily help someone who needs cash, particularly when collection hours or travel to an agent delay access.
I'd say check any wallet withdrawal charge, since money arriving in a wallet and cash available after withdrawal are different amounts.
Check Suriname and Caribbean bank instructions separately
For Suriname, ask whether the account expects Surinamese dollars, US dollars or euros, then select a service that supports that receiving instruction.
Curaçao and Sint Maarten use the Caribbean guilder, with currency code XCG, rather than the euro used in the Netherlands.
Aruba and the Caribbean Netherlands also have their own receiving-currency arrangements, so a shared connection with the Netherlands does not remove conversion.
For an overseas invoice, confirm whether the bill requires a specific amount and whether intermediary-bank deductions could leave the payment short.
Funding through iDEAL does not guarantee immediate delivery
Several services accept iDEAL or iDEAL/Wero funding, letting you authorise the euro payment through a supported Dutch banking app.
Funding confirmation and overseas delivery are separate stages, so a successful bank authorisation does not by itself mean the recipient can use the money.
I suggest checking the complete delivery estimate, especially when identity checks or the funding amount can change the timing of your first transfer.
Use the company's own payment instructions and your personal account details, keeping the funding reference alongside the international tracking information.
Large overseas payments need a different check
For savings, tuition or property payments, compare the total conversion cost alongside support and the documents required for the amount you plan to send.
Currencies Direct can provide a personal quote, while an online service may still offer better value when the payment does not need an account manager.
Ask the recipient's bank whether it deducts incoming charges before assuming your company's quoted payout settles an invoice in full.
Use the form below for your amount and destination, then check the receiving method and local funding requirements before paying.

Our methodology & why trust us
I selected regulated services available to personal customers sending from the Netherlands, checking Dutch funding options rather than importing another country's payment methods.
Our live results were checked across representative destinations, with official terms used separately to verify eligibility, regulation and the receiving methods discussed in each review.
The shortlist distinguishes bank payments, cash or wallet delivery and larger transfers, with account features assessed only when they affect sending money abroad.
Prices and delivery depend on the amount and destination, so the scheduled tables support the reviews without establishing a permanent winner for every payment.
