Cheapest Way to Send Money Internationally from Mexico in 2026

Wise is my pick for eligible bank transfers at the mid-market rate, while Santander's commission-free personal app can be competitive if you already have the required account.

Revolut Mexico's discounted sending commission adds another option, but conversion costs and possible receiving-bank deductions still need to be included.

For cash pickup, Western Union belongs in the price check because the cheapest bank deposit cannot help someone who needs to collect cash.

There is no single winner for every destination and amount, so compare the final money received against the same peso budget.

Wise

Avoid an exchange-rate markup on bank transfers

I'd say consider Wise for bank payments without an exchange-rate markup, provided its separate fee beats the total cost of another eligible service.

I'd say compare that total against a commission-free bank transfer, since a worse exchange rate can cost more than a visible sending fee.

There is an eligibility limit before price becomes relevant, because funding in pesos requires Mexican citizenship and a valid INE.

You must also pay from your own personal bank account within Mexico, which excludes treating residence alone as sufficient access to peso funding.

The transfer fee depends on the destination, amount and payment details, so the cheapest company can change between the routes you need.

Bank-funded transfers are limited to MXN80,000 per calendar month, including payments you have already made rather than a separate allowance for each transfer.

That limit makes Wise unsuitable for some larger payments, even when its exchange rate and quoted fee compare well with a bank.

For an eligible payment, compare the recipient amount using the same total peso budget, then check the estimated delivery before choosing solely on price.

Santander Mexico

Remove the bank’s sending commission

I like Santander for repeated overseas bank payments when its commission-free app quote gives a better total than an eligible transfer service.

Santander stopped charging its international app transfer fee in October 2025, which removes a fixed cost that other Mexican banks still apply.

You need an active level-4 account in pesos, mobile banking enabled and an active SuperToken, so this benefit depends on having the right account.

Payments are charged to your MXN balance, with seven destination currencies available, including US dollars, Canadian dollars, euros and pounds sterling.

The limitation is currency conversion, because a zero sending commission does not establish that Santander gives you the best exchange rate.

Its app shows the rate and total pesos to be debited before confirmation, so compare that figure with another service’s matching quote.

Receiving or intermediary-bank charges can also reduce the amount arriving, even though Santander has removed its own app sending charge.

I suggest asking the recipient to confirm any incoming payment fee before treating the amount shown in your instructions as their final spendable balance.

Revolut Mexico

A percentage transfer fee without a monthly Standard charge

Revolut Mexico’s promotional external bank-transfer commission is 0.15% plus VAT, which can make a smaller payment cheaper than a fixed-fee bank wire.

On a transfer amount of MXN20,000, that percentage gives a sending commission of MXN30 before VAT, with currency conversion and other bank costs considered separately.

The promotional fee has a maximum of MXN1,000 plus VAT, so the commission does not keep increasing beyond that cap.

My suggestion is to compare the complete app quote with Santander or Wise, because the transfer commission alone does not establish the cheapest final payment.

The 0.15% rate is promotional, with higher regular rates depending on the destination currency, so confirm the fee before authorising each transfer.

Opening an account requires Mexican nationality, Mexican residence, a valid INE and an age of at least eighteen, so foreign residents should not assume eligibility.

The Standard plan has no monthly commission and supports international transfers, while the separate Básica account does not provide that payment facility.

That means you can compare a Standard transfer without adding a paid subscription simply to access international bank payments from Mexico.

Use the Mexican price schedule for this account, since Revolut’s European exchange allowances do not describe the terms of its Mexican bank.

BBVA Mexico

A lower fixed fee than Banorte’s bank-transfer charge

BBVA’s US$10 personal digital sending commission gives existing customers a lower fixed bank charge than Banorte’s US$30 commission, before applicable tax.

The US$20 difference concerns the sending commission, so it should not be treated as a guaranteed saving after exchange rates and receiving costs.

I'd say compare BBVA when you already hold an account there, particularly if the currency needed is outside Santander’s seven-currency selection.

BBVA’s personal internet-banking service supports nine international payment currencies, including Chinese yuan and Peruvian soles alongside the main dollar and European currencies.

The commission fell to US$10 in April 2025 for personal transfers through the Mexican app and internet banking, rather than the separate business service.

A fixed fee takes a larger share of a small payment, so BBVA can still lose to a percentage-fee app or Santander’s commission-free app transfer.

Currency conversion and intermediary or receiving-bank charges remain part of the comparison, with any applicable tax on the sending charge added separately.

Before choosing BBVA for convenience, compare the final peso debit and ask the recipient whether their bank will deduct an incoming transfer charge.

Western Union

Fund cash delivery without credit-card borrowing costs

Western Union belongs in the price comparison when your recipient needs cash, because a cheaper bank-deposit quote does not provide the same receiving method.

I suggest comparing SPEI or debit-card funding before using a credit card, since the card issuer can add cash-advance charges or interest.

Those issuer costs can make a transfer more expensive even when Western Union’s own sending commission looks low on the quote.

You can also begin a payment in the app and pay cash at a participating sending agent, which provides access when cash funding is necessary.

The transfer charge and exchange rate depend on the route and receiving method, so use a cash-pickup quote for the specific destination.

A zero-fee promotion, if available for your payment, would not remove the exchange-rate margin or charges imposed by another company involved.

For repeated payments, I'd say compare the normal price rather than assume an introductory offer continues after the first eligible transfer.

Confirm that the chosen Mexican counter sends money abroad, since a location paying incoming remittances does not necessarily accept outbound transfers.

The app’s INE or IFE verification requirement also needs checking before a foreign resident treats its online quote as an accessible service.

What changes the cost of sending pesos abroad

A zero sending fee can still include currency costs

Santander removes its app's sending commission, but converting pesos at the bank's exchange rate can still reduce the amount your recipient receives.

Wise uses the mid-market rate with a separate fee, while other services can charge through their rate, a commission or both.

I suggest entering the same total peso budget into each quote, rather than comparing a headline fee with another company's all-in price.

For example, a one-percentage-point difference in conversion cost represents MXN200 on MXN20,000 before any fixed fees are considered.

That is an illustration of the cost difference, rather than a claim about the margin charged by a particular company.

Small payments are more exposed to fixed bank charges

BBVA's personal digital commission is US$10 before applicable tax, while Banorte's international app commission is US$30 plus VAT regardless of the amount.

Banorte can serve a time-sensitive dollar payment, but I suggest checking for a better total quote before accepting that fixed charge for a small routine transfer.

Sending one larger payment can reduce repeated fixed fees, provided the recipient can wait and the service's funding limits allow it.

Wise's bank-funded peso limit is MXN80,000 per calendar month, so splitting a larger payment does not bypass the monthly restriction.

Cash and credit-card funding need their own quote

For a recipient who needs cash, compare Western Union's cash-pickup price rather than assume a bank-deposit quote describes the same service.

SPEI or debit funding avoids relying on a credit card, whose issuer may add cash-advance charges and interest to the transfer price.

A participating cash agent can provide another funding option, but confirm the sending service and final quote before travelling there.

My suggestion is to check collection opening hours, since a cheaper payment does little for someone who cannot collect it when needed.

Paying an overseas invoice or moving a larger amount

Ask the recipient whether their bank deducts incoming-wire charges, particularly when tuition or another invoice requires an exact foreign-currency amount.

A company quote can include its own fee without covering every intermediary or receiving-bank charge involved in the payment.

For a larger bank transfer, compare the full conversion and bank costs rather than assume the higher sending limit offers better value.

Your citizenship, account level and transfer facility can also affect which service you can use, as covered in international money transfer services from Mexico.

How to find the lowest total cost

Fix the same peso budget

Enter the total amount you can spend in pesos, checking whether the quoted fee is included or added to that budget.

Match the receiving method

Compare bank deposits with bank deposits, or cash pickup with cash pickup, using the destination currency your recipient needs.

Check access before choosing the price

Confirm the citizenship, identity and account requirements, including Wise's monthly peso-funding limit or Santander's eligible level-4 account requirement.

Add costs outside the quote

Check applicable tax, credit-card charges and possible receiving-bank deductions before treating a headline sending fee as the final cost.

Confirm the current price before paying

Refresh the quote before sending and keep the funding receipt, so a change in exchange rate does not leave you using an earlier estimate.

Check your destination and amount

Use the form below for your payment, then check the local funding requirements and final total before confirming the transfer.

Our methodology & why trust us

This page compares costs for personal outbound transfers funded in pesos, rather than applying a US-to-Mexico remittance ranking to sending abroad.

Our live results were checked across eight destinations, while official Mexican product terms establish the eligibility and fee conditions discussed in the reviews.

The comparison covers companies with live quotes, with bank and cash options assessed separately rather than ranked from an invented data feed.

I judge cost using conversion, sending charges and relevant funding or receiving costs, without treating zero commission as proof of the cheapest transfer.

Read more about how we review companies, including the evidence used for our transfer and account assessments.
