I suggest Revolut for small weekday conversions within its allowance, while Wise's mid-market conversion and bank funding suit payments beyond that account setup.
For Postepay-funded family transfers, I suggest Taptap Send when its supported wallet delivery and final recipient amount beat the available cash or bank options.
Compare the amount received for the same euro budget below, then check the exact funding and delivery method before choosing.

Revolut
An unused weekday allowance can lower conversion costs
Revolut can keep exchange charges low for a modest weekday payment if you already have an account and unused Standard allowance.
The first €1,000 of monthly currency exchange sits within that allowance, with a 1% fair-use fee on the amount above it.
For example, converting €2,000 with the whole allowance available adds €10 in fair-use charges, before any international transfer fee.
Previous conversions can reduce the remaining allowance, so the same payment may cost more later in your monthly plan cycle.
A separate 1% weekend exchange charge also changes the result, even when you have not reached the allowance.
Payments to another Revolut user are free, while a foreign-currency bank transfer can carry its own route-dependent charge.
My suggestion is to compare the total payment cost before buying a paid plan, since its subscription needs to save more than it costs.
Revolut uses its own exchange rate, so compare the delivered amount alongside those charges when checking a competing quote.
The standard €3 fee stays fixed as the amount grows
Atlantic Money charges €3 for a standard transfer without an additional exchange-rate markup, making the fixed fee more competitive as the amount increases.
That fee represents 0.6% of €500 but 0.15% of €2,000, before any optional service charges you select.
Italian residents can use the service, although its bank-payment coverage is narrower than apps offering cash collection or mobile-wallet delivery.
Funding requires a bank transfer from an account in your own name, so this option does not fit someone paying with cash or a card.
Express delivery adds 0.1% where available, which means the fastest option needs a separate comparison with the standard price.
When markets are closed, the next available exchange rate avoids an extra charge but leaves the final rate unknown until reopening.
Choosing the last known rate costs another 0.1%, and weekend Express transfers can include both additional charges.
For a supported bank destination, my suggestion is to compare the standard quote before paying extra for speed or a fixed weekend rate.
Taptap Send
Taptap Send offers wallet transfers with rate-based pricing
Taptap Send can offer a lower total price for a supported family transfer when its wallet quote delivers more than the alternatives.
Some transfers have no separate sending fee, although the exchange-rate margin still affects how much reaches your recipient.
Other destinations carry a charge, so a zero-fee headline cannot establish the price of your particular payment.
Italian customers can fund with Postepay, making it possible to compare an app transfer without changing to a bank-funded payment.
Keep that same funding method when checking Remitly or another service, since a cheaper bank-transfer quote answers a different question.
Your recipient’s receiving method also needs to match, particularly when a wallet deposit avoids paying for a separate cash-collection service.
If they will withdraw the wallet balance immediately, include any local withdrawal charge before deciding which transfer costs less overall.
For repeated support payments, I suggest comparing the normal amount received each time rather than relying on a referral or introductory offer.
Fewer bank payouts can reduce repeated fixed charges
CurrencyFair charges a flat €3 or currency-equivalent transfer-out fee after exchange, alongside an exchange-rate margin that varies with the currency.
The fixed fee becomes a smaller share of the payment as the amount grows, although the margin still needs comparison.
If the timing and recipient are the same, combining payments can also avoid paying that fixed charge repeatedly.
For example, four payouts charged at €3 each total €12, while one equivalent payout carries a single €3 charge.
That saves €9 in the fixed component, without proving that CurrencyFair has the lowest exchange cost or final price.
You fund the account from your bank, then exchange and pay into the recipient’s bank account, so it does not replace a cash-collection service.
My suggestion is to avoid combining urgent bills solely to save transfer fees, since the recipient may need separate payments on different dates.
Compare the delivered amount for the combined payment against Wise and a fixed-fee alternative before deciding that fewer payouts save money overall.
Currencies Direct charges through its exchange-rate margin rather than a separate transfer fee, so the quoted conversion determines much of the cost.
That margin deserves close comparison when moving substantial savings or paying for property, because small percentage differences apply to a large amount.
On a €25,000 payment, a difference of 0.2 percentage points represents €50, before any other bank charges.
This is an illustration of the price difference, rather than a claim about the margin Currencies Direct will offer.
A personal account manager can discuss the payment and funding, but that support alone does not establish a cheaper quote.
I suggest comparing its bank-funded recipient amount with Wise at the same time, using the same euro budget and destination account.
Also check whether an intermediary or receiving bank will deduct a charge, since no separate broker fee does not remove those costs.
For a larger payment, choose the quote that delivers more after all applicable charges and still meets your required arrival date.

How to keep the total cost down
Compare the same euro budget and payout
A company charging a small fee can still deliver less if its exchange rate is worse, so compare the final recipient amount.
Keep your total sending budget identical, because paying a fee on top of €500 is different from sending €500 including the fee.
If the recipient needs cash or a particular wallet, compare that payout rather than use a bank-deposit price they cannot use.
First-transfer promotions can change the initial result, while your second payment needs the normal fee and exchange rate rather than the welcome offer.
Check Postepay and card funding before paying
Taptap Send accepts eligible Postepay funding, while Western Union also offers a separate online service through the Poste Italiane app.
Those channels can avoid a counter visit, but the final exchange rate and fee still decide whether the payment costs less.
For a bank-funded transfer, compare the cost of funding from your own euro account and the delivery time before assuming that paying by card is fast enough to justify any surcharge.
MoneyGram at a participating post office gives you cash funding and staff assistance, although a counter quote can differ from the online price.
I suggest using that service when its access solves your problem, rather than assuming every cash transfer is more expensive or cheaper than an app.
Avoid an extra currency conversion
Confirm the recipient's account currency before sending, particularly when a Romanian account requires lei rather than a euro SEPA payment.
Likewise, arrange pounds for a UK sterling account if that is what the recipient needs, rather than leave conversion to the receiving bank unintentionally.
For a SWIFT payment, ask whether sending or intermediary charges can reduce the amount, especially when a bill needs to be paid in full.
Include the subscription and funding costs
A paid Revolut plan can change the exchange allowance or international fee, but its subscription belongs in the calculation if you upgrade for the transfer.
Your Italian bank or card issuer may also charge for funding, so include charges outside the transfer company's quote when judging the saving.
For an occasional payment, my suggestion is to favour the lower complete cost over opening a paid account mainly to avoid one small transfer fee.
How to choose the cheapest eligible transfer
Set the amount and receiving method
Use the same total euro budget for every quote, choosing the recipient's actual bank account, wallet or cash collection method.
Check the normal price
Separate an introductory offer from the repeat-transfer fee and exchange rate, especially when you expect to send family support regularly.
Compare the delivered amount
Look at the money received after the company's fee and conversion, then include any external funding or subscription cost affecting your payment.
Confirm the timing and exact payment details
Check the delivery estimate, recipient name and currency, allowing for verification before relying on a quote for an urgent payment.
Save the quote and receipt
Keep the accepted price and transfer reference until delivery, then follow the official tracking process rather than sending another payment prematurely.
Use your own destination and amount below to find the current options, rather than assume a company winning one example also wins your payment.
Find the best rate for transfers from Italy
Enter your destination and amount to compare available EUR transfers.
Our methodology & why trust us
I selected regulated services available from Italy, comparing the cost decisions that change the price rather than assigning one permanent cheapest company.
Our live availability checks covered eight destinations, with local official funding and fee terms used to interpret the shortlist's differences.
The scheduled examples update fees, rates and recipient amounts, while counter services and a different funding method require their own matching quote.
Our commercial relationships do not determine which company is best for the payment, and the final choice depends on the complete eligible price.
Read more about how we review companies, including the evidence used for our account and transfer assessments.
