For a smaller payment to Malaysia, India or Thailand, my suggestion is to check your bank's cross-border PayNow connection before opening another account.
DBS offers real-time linked payments up to S$1,000 daily, while OCBC provides near-instant delivery into selected Asian wallets.
For other destinations, an existing Wise balance, Revolut recipient-card transfer or card-funded Remitly payment can be a useful alternative.
Western Union covers cash collection when the recipient needs physical money rather than a bank or wallet balance.

DBS
Use cross-border PayNow for smaller nearby payments
If you bank with DBS, Singapore’s PayNow bank-payment system links to equivalent services in Malaysia, India and Thailand for real-time overseas payments.
The linked services operate around the clock, with a S$1,000 daily sending limit and participating recipient institutions required.
I like the connection for a smaller personal payment, because it draws from your existing account without a separate remittance deposit.
For Malaysia, the recipient needs a mobile number registered with its DuitNow payment service through a participating bank or Touch 'n Go Digital.
For India’s UPI bank-payment network, use a participating bank and an accepted UPI ID, rather than assuming every payment handle works.
Larger or other overseas payments can use DBS Remit on eligible routes, with same-day sending before the business cutoff.
That dispatch time is separate from overseas bank credit, so use the receiving account's arrival time for an urgent deadline.
OCBC
Pay an existing Asian wallet from your SGD account
OCBC's Pay to Wallet lets you send from an SGD deposit account into selected digital wallets across Asia.
I'd say consider it for someone already spending from that wallet, especially when a branch visit would delay the payment.
Transfers are near-instant with no submission cutoff, but first-time receiving activation can be needed before the money is credited.
OCBC charges no transfer fee for the wallet feature, while exchange pricing and any wallet operator charge affect the amount received.
Minimum payouts include MYR960 for Touch 'n Go and PHP9,600 for Philippine wallets, making this less suitable for tiny payments.
For an Alipay mobile wallet in China, the recipient needs registration with a Chinese Mainland Resident Identity Card.
Your own Weixin Pay mobile wallet in China can also receive after the required Tenpay Global activation and identity checks.
Wise
Choose FAST funding or a balance already ready to send
A payment through Singapore’s FAST bank-transfer system normally reaches Wise in 15 minutes, while scheduled GIRO bank funding takes two to three working days.
I'd say choose FAST over GIRO for new SGD funding, or use an existing balance when the money is already available.
Accepted card payments reach Wise instantly, with a S$16,000 card ceiling and Singapore-issued credit cards excluded.
PayNow and linked-bank funding are also available, with the payment instructions shown when you set up the transfer.
After funding, conversion can take up to two working days and the receiving currency has its own payout time.
Holding the receiving currency in advance removes that conversion stage, which is useful for a repeat overseas bank payment.
Compare the delivery time and bank recipient amount for S$1,000 and S$5,000 below.
Arrange cash collection with PayNow or card funding
Western Union offers Singapore-origin bank, wallet and cash transfers, with local PayNow and card funding available.
I suggest cash collection when the recipient cannot use a bank deposit and has a convenient agent nearby.
Eligible cash payments can be ready within minutes after funding and release, with agent hours determining when they can be collected.
Complete your profile checks before an urgent payment and share the MTCN with the recipient once collection is ready.
Compare the exchange rate as well as the transfer fee, including any funding charge shown for your chosen method.
How to fund your transfer quickly
Your existing bank account may already provide the fastest route, especially for a smaller cross-border PayNow payment.
When using a separate transfer app, pick the funding rail before paying so an avoidable GIRO wait does not absorb your deadline.
Your situation
How to fund it
Why it can save time
You are paying someone in a linked PayNow market
Send directly from your participating bank account
Avoids a separate remittance deposit
You need new SGD funding for Wise
Follow the FAST or accepted instant-card instructions
Can avoid the slower GIRO funding stage
You hold the receiving currency already
Use that available Wise or Revolut balance
Removes a new deposit and conversion
You are paying a wallet from OCBC
Debit your existing SGD deposit account
Keeps funding within the bank's wallet payment flow
A fast deposit into the sending account still leaves any review, conversion and overseas payout to complete.
Which receiving method fits the deadline?
Registered mobile-number payments
A linked mobile identifier can credit an existing overseas account, with the bank connection and registered recipient checked before payment.
For sending money from Singapore to Malaysia, PayNow-DuitNow provides a real-time route through participating institutions rather than an ordinary international wire.
The linked bank-payment systems also connect PayNow to India’s UPI and Thailand’s PromptPay, with the recipient details required for each route.
Wallet balances
A wallet works well when the recipient can spend the money there, with receiving activation completed before the first transfer.

Ordinary bank deposits and recipient cards
A bank deposit suits someone using an existing account, while a recipient-card payment uses the accepted card network instead.
For a larger bank payment, compare the receiving currency's payout time with DBS Remit's eligible same-day dispatch option.
Revolut's card route provides another choice without requiring the person to open a new transfer account.
Physical cash
Cash collection needs an agent the person can reach, with identification and the reference prepared before travel.
Choose the location before sending so a ready payment does not wait overnight for an agent to open.
Avoid a first-transfer delay
Enable the overseas bank connection
Set the cross-border PayNow limit in your bank before relying on a linked payment, then confirm the recipient appears under their registered identifier.
Complete wallet receiving setup
Ask the recipient to finish any overseas-receiving activation before payment, including the required Weixin Pay setup for an own-wallet transfer.
Choose the correct funding rail
Use the payment instructions for your transfer and include the difference between FAST and GIRO when a new SGD deposit is needed.
Sending money within Singapore
Domestic PayNow provides instant SGD payments to registered recipients at participating institutions, without converting into a foreign currency.
Use your bank's local daily limit for that payment, keeping the separate cross-border S$1,000 limit for the overseas linkage.
Compare the cost for your receiving method
Compare recipient amounts for S$1,000, then select a delivery time and payment method that meet your deadline.

Our methodology & why trust us
We assessed Singapore-origin services using official timing, local funding, receiving-network and regulatory information alongside our comparison results.
The assessment includes cross-border PayNow, bank-funded Asian wallets, FAST funding and recipient-card delivery, with each method kept separate from bank-transfer prices.
Our tables show delivery times and recipient amounts, while the automatic comparison orders prices rather than ranking the fastest services.
