Wise

If your recipient needs money to a bank account, Wise is probably the best place to start.

They claim that 77% of their transfers arrive in under 20 seconds and 95% arrive within a day.

Based on my test transfers, this is largely accurate. I’ve made multiple large and small transfers with Wise and all arrived within minutes, with no delays.

How you pay for your transfer can affect the speed, since they won't be able to send until they get the money.

With Wise, card, wallet and balance-funded transfers can arrive in seconds, while a bank transfer can take a bit longer.

Based on our analysis and comparisons, this is what you can expect from Wise in terms of transfer times for different amounts and destinations:

If your recipient needs money urgently, then sending cash is usually faster. In that case, I’d suggest checking Western Union, MoneyGram, and Remitly.

TapTap Send

TapTap Send is the better option when your recipient uses a mobile wallet or mobile money.

This is especially true for transfers to Africa and Asia.

Depending on the destination, it supports wallets such as GCash, Alipay, DANA and GoPay, along with mobile-money services such as M-PESA, bKash, Easypaisa and Orange Money.

Most mobile-wallet transfers arrive in under five minutes, including weekends and holidays.

The recipient's wallet needs to be active and registered to the exact mobile number you enter.

From Canada, you can pay with an eligible Visa, Visa Electron, Mastercard or Maestro debit card.

The main limitation is the CAD$3,500 per-transfer limit.

Here are the transfer times with TapTap Send for different amounts and destinations from our comparisons:

I would use it for small urgent mobile transfers, but for anything bigger, Wise might be better.

Remitly

Remitly offers an Express transfer option, which makes them one of the fastest online services, but also one of the most expensive.

From Canada, you can pay by Interac e-Transfer, bank account, debit or credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Remitly says more than 90% of funded transfers were delivered in under an hour in the first quarter of 2026, with most delivered in seconds.

However, funding and verification can make the complete transfer take longer.

Where Express and Economy are available, Express is the faster option but costs a bit more.

If you time it right, you can use the Express option with cash delivery to get money the same or the next day.

In my opinion, if you absolutely have to send money online now, and the cost doesn’t matter, then Remitly is a good option.

However, if you can wait a few hours, or don’t mind sending cash, Wise, Western Union, or MoneyGram may be better.

Western Union

Western Union is a great option for cash transfers.

Eligible cash transfers are usually ready minutes, but Western Union also offers great promotional rates on first transfers.

The only downside is that their transfer limits are a bit low (depends on where you send money).

You can set up an eligible transfer from Canada using a debit card, credit card or Interac e-Transfer.

Generally, money will be ready for pickup within minutes, and your recipient can collect it using the tracking number and matching government-issued ID.

The amount, destination, currency availability, local rules, ID requirements and agent opening hours can all delay the collection.

I would also check MoneyGram and Ria for the same transfer.

All three can offer cash pickup within minutes, so check which one gives the recipient more money and has the most convenient agent location.

Why an instant transfer can still be delayed

There are a lot of reasons a transfer can get delayed, but usually it comes down to:

  1. Funding and receiving method

  2. Additional checks

  3. Issues with delivery details

Your payment has to reach the company

Your payment has to reach the company

When you make a deposit to pay for the transfer, an Interac e-Transfer, bank debit, bill payment or wire may need to be cleared and matched to your transfer first.

For example, RemitBee gives Interac funding a standard processing time of 15 to 60 minutes when the instructions are correct and no extra verification is needed.

This has to happen before the company can send the money to your recipient.

Your checks have to clear

Your checks have to clear

A company may verify you when you open the account, then ask for more information about a new recipient or larger transfer.

This is usually the most common reason for the money transfer delays.

Your recipient still needs access to the money

Your recipient still needs access to the money

A bank or wallet can take time to post the payment after the transfer company marks it complete.

Cash pickup also depends on an open agent, available local currency and matching ID.

Weekends and statutory holidays can affect the funding bank, transfer company or recipient bank.

Check the calendar in both countries if the deadline falls near a non-business day.

How to make an international transfer arrive faster

Most avoidable delays happen before the company sends the money.

Verify your account before an emergency

Complete the identity check in advance.

Don't wait until someone needs money for medical care or rent.

Save the correct recipient details

Match their legal name to the bank account, wallet or government ID.

Recheck account numbers and local bank codes before paying.

Choose how they will receive the money

Pick a bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup first.

Then compare money transfer apps offering the same delivery method.

Check the complete funding time

A card or Interac payment may be faster than a bank-funded transfer, but check the fee and when the company's delivery clock starts.

Send before the relevant cut-offs

Allow for Canadian bank hours, the recipient bank's working day and cash-agent opening times.

Prepare documents for a larger payment

Keep bank statements, sale records, pay stubs or other proof of funds ready in case the company asks for them.

Test it before a fixed deadline

Especially useful for large money transfers from Canada.

Where possible, make a small transfer in advance to confirm the recipient details and that you are comfortable with the process.

Don't split payments into smaller chunks to avoid reporting or verification checks.

Large transfers can take longer to verify

A large or unusual payment is more likely to need source-of-funds and transaction checks, especially when you are using the company for the first time.

Prepare your bank statements, sale records or other supporting documents before fixing a rate or promising a delivery date.

Responsive customer support and a reliable funding method matter as much as the quoted transfer time here.

Read our guide to transferring large sums of money from Canada before moving property, tuition or investment money.

Does a faster transfer cost more?

Usually, but not always.

Where Remitly offers Express and Economy, Express prioritizes speed while Economy can give you a better price.

Compare the final recipient amount before paying for the quicker option.

A credit-card-funded transfer may also be treated as a cash advance.

This can mean a higher interest rate with interest charged immediately, so check your card agreement before using it for speed.

And make sure you are comparing the same delivery method.

Cash pickup or delivery may cost more than a bank deposit, but the cheaper bank transfer is irrelevant if your recipient doesn’t have a bank account.

I suggest , then pick the fastest options from the ones that offer you the most money.

A transfer arriving five minutes earlier is rarely worth a much worse exchange rate when both arrive today.

If you can wait, and cost is more important, then compare the cheapest ways to send money internationally from Canada instead.
