TCS can lock up cash until your tax return

TCS is collected on qualifying LRS remittances above the annual threshold.

From April 2026, education and medical remittances are generally collected at 2% above ₹10 lakh, while many other purposes carry 20% above the threshold.

Education funded by a qualifying loan does not attract TCS.

TCS is a tax credit rather than an extra transfer fee. You can claim it against your final tax bill, but the money remains unavailable until it is adjusted or refunded.

Add up your LRS payments across banks before sending. The bank or transfer company will need your earlier use to apply the threshold correctly.

UPI only funds the rupee side

UPI can be used to deposit money to a money transfer company, but it can’t send MAD to Morocco.

Instead, a money transfer company will switch to a local network of bank accounts or local rails to move INR to MAD.

All outward remittance still passes through an RBI-authorised dealer.
