Wise suits a bank payment you can fund through UPI, while Instarem handles education paperwork through remote verification.

I suggest considering ICICI iMobile or HDFC RemitNow when you already bank there and want the transfer beside your everyday banking.

Niyo and BookMyForex add travel-money features, but the permitted purpose and final rupee debit should decide which app you choose.

Wise

Wise lets you fund an overseas bank payment through UPI

Available on

iOS and Android

App store rating

4.6/5 (8.1k+ ratings)

Google play rating

4.7/5 (2m+ reviews)

Wise combines recipient setup and transfer tracking with UPI funding, so you can pay from the Indian account you already use.

The service is for Indian tax residents living in India, with identity, PAN and video verification before outward sending.

Your own personal bank account must match your registered name, and bank funding also supports IMPS, NEFT and RTGS.

I think it is worth considering for a supported education, medical or travel-related bank payment when avoiding another bank beneficiary setup helps.

It sends to foreign bank accounts, with a USD60,000 per-transfer limit inside the wider annual LRS allowance.

Its travel card adds overseas spending, but personal foreign receiving details are unavailable in India.

For holding and receiving foreign currency in India, the available account types have different eligibility rules from a travel wallet.

There is no mandatory monthly subscription, with the mid-market conversion rate and a separate transfer fee.

For travel-card INR funds, sending or withdrawal has a ten-day cooling period after your last card purchase.

The INR50,000 and INR5,00,000 examples show Wise’s conversion fee and delivered amount for the selected currencies.

Instarem

Instarem keeps education-payment documents in a remote workflow

Available on

iOS and Android

App store rating

4.4/5 (550 ratings)

Google play rating

4.7/5 (10k+ reviews)

Instarem lets you enter the education recipient and upload supporting documents without organising the remittance through a branch.

You complete identity and PAN checks, video KYC and digital signing, then fund from your own bank after adding the remittance beneficiary.

I like that workflow for tuition when the institution invoice and student details need to stay attached to the payment.

The app keeps recipient and transaction records, so repeating a payment does not mean treating every tuition instalment as a new task.

It pays supported overseas bank accounts, while verification and receipt of your funding come before the stated processing time.

The Indian remittance service runs through an RBI Authorised Dealer Category II entity, rather than an unrestricted wallet for any overseas purpose.

Its conversion rate includes a margin, with the transfer fee, GST and applicable TCS added to the payment cost.

A mobile quote can look cheaper on its sending fee while delivering less foreign currency, so I'd say judge the final amount.

Instarem’s fee and exchange-rate difference sit beside the recipient amount below, making its INR budget directly comparable with Wise.

BookMyForex lets you create the overseas bank order, upload purpose documents and complete digital KYC from your phone.

You enter the foreign account and PAN details, then fund through UPI or netbanking and follow the transfer's progress.

I suggest considering it when you want help with the remittance documents alongside travel-card booking or reloading in the same app.

The transfer is executed by the selected RBI-authorised bank or dealer, so that partner's purpose and settlement rules apply.

Its Book Now option reserves a rate for up to three working days against a refundable 2% booking deposit.

That can help while arranging the paperwork, but the reservation requires money before the full transfer is funded.

The regular bank fee is ₹320 plus GST, with estimated nostro charges of ₹1,000–₹1,500 depending on the currency and partner.

Promotional fee waivers do not remove foreign-exchange taxes or every receiving-bank deduction, and the accepted quote controls the actual cost.

Phone or chat assistance is available when a document or recipient detail needs clarification before processing.

Niyo lets you arrange a remittance from another Indian bank account, without first ordering its travel card or opening a Niyo bank account.

You add the recipient and purpose documents, then pay through UPI or internet banking from your own account.

I like that separation for a tuition or family-maintenance payment when you want the remittance service without another banking relationship.

The app also tracks your remaining LRS availability, helping you keep the annual allowance beside your transfer planning.

Outward execution is through Kanji Forex, an RBI Authorised Dealer Category II, with the accepted purpose determining the required documents.

Its travel-card and spending functions are separate products, rather than proof that the transfer gives you foreign receiving details.

Niyo does not add a platform or service fee to the remittance, but the conversion rate includes a forex markup.

GST, applicable TCS and bank deductions can still affect the payment, so zero platform fees do not mean free conversion.

Transfers usually take two to three business days after the necessary checks, making this a planned bank payment rather than instant foreign delivery.

HSBC

HSBC Global Money Transfers is an app-only service, so you arrange the bank payment through HSBC India rather than its website transfer screen.

If you already have HSBC, you can select your funding account, add the overseas payee and enter the payment purpose in the app.

I think it is worth considering for repeat bank recipients or university payments when keeping the order beside your existing account saves another signup.

Global Education Payments lets you choose or manually add the institution and supply student information and the relevant loan documents.

An international payee cannot currently be edited, so changed bank details require deleting the saved entry and adding it again.

Resident sending has a USD25,000 transaction and daily ceiling, which can split a larger invoice across dates.

Most Global Money Transfers have no HSBC transfer fee, while taxes and receiving or intermediary bank charges can still apply.

The bank's exchange-rate spread is higher when currency markets are closed, so the day and time can change the conversion cost.

There is no separate paid sending plan, although the HSBC account's own eligibility and banking charges remain separate.

ICICI Bank

ICICI brings Money2World into iMobile

Available on

iOS and Android

4.8/5 (1m+ ratings)

4.6/5 (6.6m+ reviews)

If you have an ICICI Savings or Salary account, iMobile can open Money2World under Transfer Overseas for your bank-funded remittance.

You choose the destination and currency, add the receiver and purpose, and complete the source-of-funds declarations before authorising the payment.

The flow uses an OTP and debit-card grid values, so having the right authorisation details ready avoids interrupting the order.

I suggest considering it when you already keep your banking in iMobile and want beneficiary records and payment status beside that account.

The service supports 21 currencies, with selected full-value routes in USD, AUD and GBP helping reduce deductions from an exact payment.

That option does not mean every currency or overseas bank transfer has the same receiving-charge protection.

The quote includes processing charges, currency conversion and relevant taxes, with correspondent costs considered for the chosen route.

The ordinary iMobile bank account is not the separate GIFT City foreign-currency account, so do not treat its overseas-transfer screen as foreign receiving details.

There is no separate Money2World subscription, but your underlying account and the purpose of the payment still determine access.

HDFC RemitNow adds a full-value option to bank-app sending

Available on

iOS and Android

App store rating

4.8/5 (467k+ ratings)

Google play rating

4.6/5 (1.3m+ reviews)

HDFC RemitNow lets you add an International Payee in the current HDFC Bank App, then choose the purpose and authorise the overseas payment.

Adding that beneficiary requires an OTP and a 30-minute cooling period, so a new payee needs preparation before an urgent payment.

I think it is worth considering for a planned bank invoice when you already have HDFC and want the selected full-value option for USD, EUR or GBP.

The service accepts resident-individual payments across 19 currencies and 16 purposes, including education, family maintenance and permitted investment payments.

Sending starts at USD100 equivalent, with a USD50,000 transaction and daily limit inside the separate annual LRS allowance.

The commission is ₹500 plus GST up to USD500 equivalent, or ₹1,000 plus GST above that amount.

The Full Value option has an additional charge, so it is separate from the basic ₹500 or ₹1,000 commission.

Foreign-exchange GST and applicable TCS add to the rupee debit, while correspondent costs depend on the selected charge option.

Conversion uses the bank's selling rate when your account is debited, so the earlier displayed rate is not a guaranteed settlement rate.

Requests before the business-day cut-off can be processed that day, but processing is separate from the overseas bank making funds available.

HDFC Bank is worth it

Cheapest apps for sending from India

Wise and Instarem appear in our live INR results, while Niyo, BookMyForex and the banks need their own current quotes for a full decision.

I'd say compare the final recipient amount and total rupee payment, including the purpose-specific taxes, rather than choose the smallest sending fee.

The cheapest way to send money abroad from India can change with the payment size, executing bank and accepted purpose.

UPI funding is different from an overseas UPI payment

Wise, Niyo and BookMyForex can use UPI for the Indian funding stage, while the remittance service arranges the foreign bank payment.

That does not mean a domestic UPI app can deliver rupees to any overseas bank account.

For a domestic payment, your ordinary UPI or bank app is the simpler choice, without the foreign-exchange paperwork of an outward remittance.

I suggest keeping travel-card spending separate from a bank invoice, because paying a merchant abroad uses a different product and fee structure.

When receiving money from abroad in India, share the account or payment details accepted by the overseas sender’s service.

Match the purpose before uploading documents

A tuition invoice, family-maintenance payment and overseas investment can need different accepted purposes, even when the destination bank is identical.

The annual LRS allowance is USD250,000 across your permitted remittances, rather than a fresh allowance every time you change apps.

A bank's daily limit or an app's purpose restrictions can be lower, so the actual payment needs to fit both.

Prepare the beneficiary details and purpose evidence before funding, especially when a university deadline leaves little time for another document request.

NRI repatriation and business payments have different rules from the resident-personal transfers covered here.

Keep tax collection separate from the transfer fee

For resident LRS remittances, TCS generally starts above ₹10 lakh of aggregate sending in the financial year.

Education and medical remittances attract 2% on the excess, while other purposes attract 20%, with the qualifying education-loan exemption separate.

TCS is collected tax that can be credited through the tax process, rather than revenue earned by the app.

GST and bank charges are separate, so your available rupee balance needs to cover more than the foreign invoice alone.

I'd say check the total debit before confirming a payment, especially after earlier transfers have used the annual tax threshold.

How to send money abroad through an app

Choose the accepted purpose

Select the actual purpose and foreign recipient, then prepare the invoice or other supporting evidence the app needs.

Complete your identity and bank checks

Use your own matching bank account and finish the required identity or video verification before funding the transfer.

Review the full rupee payment

Check the conversion, transfer charges, taxes and recipient amount, then choose the funding method available for your order.

Save the payment reference

Keep the confirmation and transfer reference, and use the app status or support route if the recipient needs a trace.

Use the comparison form for your destination and amount, then choose an app that accepts your payment purpose and funding account.

Compare transfers from India

Enter your destination and amount to compare available INR transfer fees, exchange rates and recipient amounts.

Our methodology & why trust us

I selected actual India outbound apps around recipient setup, document handling and bank funding, rather than rank services that only send money into India.

Our research checked current local app listings, authorised execution routes, mobile functions, funding rules and live INR results.

I assessed the accepted purpose and payment workflow alongside conversion costs, bank charges and the features that support repeat transfers.

We may earn commission from some companies, but commercial agreements do not determine my selection or opinions.

Our review process explains how we assess transfer companies and their services.
