Table of Contents
For sending money to family, I suggest considering Remitly around the receiving options, or Western Union when you need to pay cash in Spain.
Wise is my pick for foreign bank payments, while Revolut combines transfers with the account and card features you use between payments.
If you already have Santander, its app also deserves a price check because international digital payments have no issuing commission.

Remitly
Remitly lets you choose around your family's receiving needs
Available on
iOS and Android
App store rating
4.8/5 (110k+ ratings)
Google play rating
4.8/5 (1.6m+ reviews)
I think Remitly is a good fit when someone needs a cash-collection location or supported wallet, rather than another app account to manage.
You set the destination and receiving method first, then add the recipient's details before authorising the transfer.
The app keeps the payment status on the home screen, so you can follow progress and update the person receiving it.
From Spain, you can pay with an eligible debit or credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or an offered bank-account method.
Pay from an account in your name using the order's instructions, keeping those funding details separate from your recipient's bank account.
The recipient does not need a Remitly account, although cash collection requires the correct identity and collection details.
My suggestion is to choose the receiving partner around where your family lives, rather than making them travel farther for a slightly cheaper quote.
The cost includes a transfer fee and exchange-rate margin, with funding and delivery choices changing the final amount.
There is no mandatory sending subscription, while your card issuer can add another charge.
First-transfer offers reduce the initial price, so judge regular family support using the rate and fee for repeat payments.
For €500 and €2,000 payments, the table shows how much your family receives after the quoted transfer costs.
Wise suits bank payments alongside foreign income and travel money

I think Wise is a good fit for foreign bank payments when receiving income in that currency gives you money to use for the next bill.
The app lets you reuse recipients, review your transfer history and follow each payment's progress without rebuilding the bank details.
You can set rate alerts before converting, then see the fee and arrival estimate for the transfer you create.
Pay from an eligible bank account, card or available Wise balance, with the funding method affecting the cost.
The recipient receives a bank payment without opening Wise, but you need a different service for cash collection.
You can hold supported currencies, receive payments through available account details and spend from a matching balance with the debit card.
Keeping pounds or dollars can avoid exchanging into euros and buying the currency again, so I suggest using its multi-currency account for recurring foreign income.
Santander removes its issuing commission, while Wise separates the conversion fee from the mid-market rate, so compare the foreign amount delivered by both.
There is no personal monthly subscription, while the physical card costs €7 and some receiving or withdrawal services carry separate charges.
The table below puts the fee beside the exchange rate for €500 and €2,000 payments into the listed receiving currencies.
Revolut keeps overseas transfers beside your card spending

I’d say Revolut suits foreign bank payments alongside card spending, particularly when you want to retain travel money between trips.
You open and verify the account in the app, then manage transfers beside virtual cards and spending controls.
A payment to another Revolut user is instant and free, while an external bank transfer needs the recipient's bank details.
You can hold and exchange supported currencies, receive account payments and spend from an available matching balance.
Its multi-currency account can cover that spending routine, while Remitly or Western Union is a better fit when your family needs cash collection.
The free Standard plan includes €1,000 of monthly exchanges, with a 1% fee on amounts above that allowance.
Standard also adds 1% for weekend exchange, so the conversion timing can change a transfer or card payment's cost.
Revolut uses its own rate, and non-SEPA international transfers can have a separate payment fee.
I suggest including both travel conversions and overseas payments before assessing a paid plan, since they draw on the same exchange allowance.
Eligible bank funding is free, while commercial or non-EEA card funding can cost extra and physical-card delivery carries a charge.
For €500 and €2,000 bank payments, check the quoted recipient amount alongside your remaining allowance, particularly after exchanging money for a trip.
Santander can handle the payment from your current bank app

If you already have Santander, you can send international bank payments from the app that holds your Spanish account.
You can keep transfer receipts beside account movements, set payment shortcuts and manage card controls without another money app.
Santander Key handles transaction authorisation, while biometric access and account alerts help you manage access and payment activity.
The app also lets you use Bizum and review spending categories, giving it a role beyond an occasional foreign payment.
International digital payments have no issuing commission, including SWIFT payments, but foreign-currency conversion still has a cost.
My suggestion is to compare the final converted amount with a specialist app rather than assuming that zero issuing commission means zero transfer cost.
Your account or package charges remain separate, and other banks can affect the costs on an international payment.
This is a bank-account payout option, so use a remittance app when your recipient needs cash collection or mobile-money delivery.

I suggest Taptap Send for repeated payments to a supported local wallet or receiving bank used by your family.
You can pick a saved recipient or add someone from contacts, then select the delivery method and review the payment.
The app keeps transfer status and help beside the order, which reduces the need to search through separate emails for payment details.
To send from Spain, register with an active local phone number and complete the required identity checks.
Eligible debit, credit and prepaid cards can fund transfers, with bank funding used where the app offers it.
Bank deposits, mobile wallets and cash collection depend on the destination, so start with the recipient's available options.
The price comes through a transfer fee, exchange-rate margin or both, depending on the destination and receiving method.
There is no required transfer subscription, but a wallet can charge the recipient for withdrawing cash after delivery.
I suggest judging it on regular family payments, rather than expecting a travel card or everyday currency account from the app.

TransferGo suits a planned payment when you want to choose an eligible recipient bank or card and follow the order from your phone.
Its calculator shows the exchange rate, fee and arrival estimate, with funding and delivery choices available before confirming.
For bank-funded orders, the app gives you payment details and a reference to include with the payment from your own account.
You can track the order in Transactions, with delivery updates helping you check when it has finished.
Eligible card funding provides another route, while recipient-card or wallet delivery depends on the destination.
My suggestion is to check the receiving method first, particularly when paying a person who uses a card rather than a foreign bank account.
The transfer fee and exchange-rate cost change with the amount, funding method and delivery choice.
Do not pay extra for faster delivery automatically when a planned payment can use the lower-cost option.
The €500 and €2,000 quotes below cover eight destinations for checking that difference before you pay.

Choose around the recipient, not just the sending app
For family payments to Colombia or Morocco, receiving access can be more important than an extra feature on your own phone.
A bank deposit works when the recipient can use the account, while cash collection needs a location they can reach.
Mobile-wallet delivery can avoid a collection trip, but withdrawal charges affect how much cash the recipient ends up with.
My suggestion is to save the correct recipient details after the first completed payment, then review the receiving method again when their circumstances change.
When Bizum or your bank covers the payment
Bizum works through participating bank apps, including Santander, for payments to other participating users.
Its international network includes Portugal, Italy and Andorra, rather than acting as a worldwide foreign-currency remittance service.
For a euro bank payment within SEPA, use your bank's digital payment options before opening a separate currency account.
An international border does not create an exchange-rate cost when both bank accounts use euros.
For substantial property proceeds or another large payment, international money transfer services can include brokers alongside app-based companies.
I suggest assessing support and the final rate for that payment, rather than choosing around app-store ratings alone.
How to arrange your first payment in the app
Choose the receiving method
Start with the recipient's bank, wallet or cash-collection options, then select an app that supports the method they can use.
Register and prepare the recipient details
Complete the identity checks and enter the correct recipient details, using the account or collection name that matches their documents.
Check the funding route and total
Choose an eligible funding method and check the fee, exchange rate, recipient amount and arrival estimate before authorising.
Keep the receipt and follow progress
Save the transfer record and tracking details, then share any collection information the recipient needs to receive the money.
Please share your experience with …
