In-person transfers

There's no legal limit on how much you can send, so the counter in the kiosk, the callshop or the grocery store is still a popular way to send money internationally.

Deposit €7,000 to MoneyGram online, and choose cash pickup as delivery option. Once you pay, it should be available in minutes.

Our data shows MoneyGram came out cheapest among in-person options on 100% of days in the past month.

Germany's AWV reporting threshold is €50,000.

A German resident may need to report a payment above that amount to the Bundesbank when it is made to a non-resident.

It is a statistics report, not a tax or permission request.

Transfers between your own domestic and foreign accounts are exempt, and other exemptions apply depending on the payment purpose.

SEPA and SWIFT are different

If the recipient has a euro account in the SEPA area, a normal SEPA payment can be the simplest option.

A payment converted into UGX sits outside that pricing rule and may involve another bank or payout partner.

Check whether the quote uses SHA, OUR or BEN charges on a bank transfer.

This decides whether intermediary costs are shared, paid by you or deducted from what the recipient receives.
