PayPal users can now add their PayPal and Venmo debit or credit cards to their Apple Wallet. In a press release on Tuesday (3rd October), the firm indicated that the integration will enable its customers to make payments online, on apps, or in-store using Apple Pay. Additionally, one can still earn cashback and rewards on the entitled purchases.
PayPal’s Apple Pay integration
To add PayPal and Venmo credit or debit cards to one’s Apple Wallet, a PayPal user will need to open the Apple Wallet app and go to “add debit or credit card”. One can choose to enter the card details manually or scan it.
In the initial phase of the integration, one can only add their card via the Apple Wallet app. However, PayPal has indicated that customers will be able to add them directly in the Venmo or PayPal apps in the ensuing months. Besides, it is working on ensuring that the users are able to use a PayPal Business Debit Card with Apple Pay.
Upon adding a card, the customer can make a payment in-store with Apple Pay by double-clicking the side button. For online or in-app purchases, the user will go to the checkout page and tap on the Apple Pay button.
In the press release, PayPal has also highlighted its prioritization of security for both PayPal and Apple Pay. When making a payment with Apple Pay, the purchase will be authenticated with Touch ID, Face ID, or a device passcode. This is in addition to the one-time unique security code. Besides, the company has assured its users that all transactions will be secure regardless of whether the customer is paying with a physical card or their smartphone.
