Fees & Rates

Global66 doesn't often charge fees, and makes a profit through markups on the mid market exchange rate.

Global66 doesn’t generally charge upfront fees. It makes its profits by applying reasonable mark-ups to your transfer’s exchange rate. This means the cost of transferring money with Global66 will vary based on the destination, currency pairing, and value of your transfer.

While this does make it difficult to see upfront how much you’ll pay for any given transfer, Global66’s desktop calculation tool lets you model a fixed fee with zero obligation to see it through.

Transfer fees

Global66 makes its money by marking up your transfer’s given exchange rate. The good news is this means most transfers don’t have an upfront cost. However, domestic transfers, with no exchange rates to mark up on, will instead run up an extra fee to compensate.

Exchange rates

In line with other transfer companies like Currencies Direct and WorldRemit, Global66 calculates the fairest exchange rates according to the daily mid-market rate (MMR). The applied markup varies depending on the currencies and values you’re transferring.

Getting the best deal with Global66 will depend on your needs. Some conversions attract no extra cost above the MMR, while others include a markup of up to 1.02%, so it’s always worth checking an offer against your specific requirements.

Speed

Speed of transfers

9
Transfer Speed

Global66 prides itself on offering transfers above the average speed, with most being completed in a day or less.

Just like its rates, Global66’s speeds depend on the destination of your transfer, as well as when you decide to send it. Generally, however, Global66 promises a maximum of one day to complete any transfer. This is on the faster end of transfer commitments, on par with other companies like PassTo and Profee.

You can also enjoy instant P2P transfers with other Global66 members – a good incentive to get peers and networks on board, too.

Limits

Transfer limits

6.5
Transfer Limits

Transfer limits are quite strict with Global66, but you may find it useful for smaller transfers.

If you want to move larger amounts of money, you’re quite limited with Global66. Personal account holders can send up to 30,000 USD (or any currency equivalent) per month. That’s a fair bit below the international transfer limit of 500,000 USD per day, so you’re better off going to platforms like OFX or Revolut for larger, more flexible transfers. But with a minimum transfer limit of $20 USD, this could be your go-to for regular smaller payments.

Product

Product offering

7.8
Product Offering

The product offering is more limited than most competitors, with limited availability worldwide and minimal payment options.

Your payment options are also pretty limited here. With Global66, you can only send money via credit or debit card. Bad news for those looking for ease and automation, since direct debits aren’t available, and syncing services with Apple Pay or PayPal isn’t an option either. However, you can choose to receive payments either straight to your bank account or to your in-platform wallet.

Global66 supports 37 different currencies and enables transfer corridors to over 65 countries – a mid-range offering when compared with broader providers like Remitly and XE. Crucially, though, Global66 has a regional customer base. Those wanting to transfer money from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, or Peru are good to go. Everyone else, look elsewhere – Global66 isn’t available in your country.

Usability

Ease of use

8.5
Ease of Use

The focus is on the app, but reviews of its usability remain mixed.

Global66 really wants you to download their app, rather than use the desktop version. The website has multiple graphic cues nudging you towards your app store, especially during the registration process.

Most customer reviews say the transfer and conversion features on the app interface are easy to set up and use, if a bit slow to register and get started. But there could be some tech issues for Global66 to remedy. Lots of users report glitches when connecting with external banks, as well as irritating excess notifications during the transfer process.

Global66 is only for use in Latin American countries, so it figures that the website and app are published in Spanish. There’s an option to translate the website to English, but the wording is clunky and the graphics aren’t translatable, which could limit accessibility and confidence for some.

Customer service

There’s a few ways to reach Global66 customer support – if you haven’t already solved your issue in the FAQ Help Centre (available in-app and on the website). On the contact page, there’s a form and email address for creating ongoing case numbers, and there’s a WhatsApp instant messaging link or phone number for those that need to act faster.

Safety

Safety and trust

8.3
Safety & Trust

Global66 has local regulation and decent security, but its youth in the market must also be considered.

Global66 offers services in the US through sponsorship from the Community Federal Savings Bank. It’s authorized by the central banks and financial regulators of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru, and is subject to compliance with regional crime prevention laws. It’s also a member of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce and Fintechile.

Security-wise, Global66’s platforms and data are locked down with 256-bit SSL encryption and a 2048-bit signature.

Global66 has been active for 6 years and currently claims over 507,600 users. It’s a relatively young company in the transfer market, which could cause some hesitancy. But the transparent exchange rates and no hidden fees should offer some confidence.

Check your provider is regulated

You should only ever use regulated providers to transfer money. If a provider is not regulated, it’s likely to be a scam.

Remember: We will only ever recommend regulated financial institutions.

Customer feedback

Customer Feedback

Reviews are often positive, but there's a theme around app glitches and slow transaction times.

There are currently just under 8,600 reviews of Global66 on Trustpilot, awarding it an average 4.4 out of 5 or ‘Excellent’ score. 71% of the ratings are 5 stars, citing reliability, transparency and security as key reasons to come back. Inconveniences like the long registration process (more on this below) and extra verification steps are frequently reported, although sometimes in a good light to frame confidence and security.

The most critical Trustpilot reviews reference the glitchy app as well as slow transaction times and poor communication. This suggests Global66 still needs to iron out some user experience elements (especially if they want to deliver on their promises for high-speed transfers).

On Google Play and the App Store, Global66 received 4.2 and 4.8 stars respectively, with just shy of 10,000 reviews in total across both platforms. Like on Trustpilot, most reviews quote decent rates and fast transfers, but app glitches are often referenced here too.

Global66 then recommends adding funds to your account before you start transferring, and some services require a ‘proof of transfer’ for every transaction. All in all, the set-up and transferring processes are a bit more time-consuming here than for other similar providers.

Summary

Global66 - Good value service for low-value transfers

Our review of Global66 comes in at a slightly below-average score, relative to our take on other similar providers. Ultimately, it comes down to the narrow product offering and low transfer limits.

Global66 provides a good service in a handful of countries for businesses and individuals needing to send small amounts of money internationally. It’s a relatively narrow category, but if you fall into it, we’d recommend Global66 as a simple and reliable provider.

Very good service in Colombia. When compared to other platforms, it offers lot more options and flexibility to Colombian users. Wise for example, does not have option to issue physical card to Colombi, link cuurent account, transfer from balance to Colombia accounts. Global66 provides all these options easily.
