How Paulo started saving £35/month by using MoneyTransfers.com

“I never imagined that sending money home to my family in Portugal through my bank could cost me way more than using alternative transfer providers. It was shocking to discover how much money I could’ve saved in the past. Now I always use MoneyTransfers.com to find the best rates each month.”

Paulo,33, Portuguese

My dream? To one day own and run an award-winning vineyard in the Alentejo region in Portugal together with my family.

The Story

This is Paulo’s story, one of the many people from around the globe who is making London their base to advance their career and economic opportunities.

I trained as a software developer, so London seemed the obvious option if I wanted to earn a competitive salary at a top company. Unfortunately, moving meant leaving behind my parents, sister, and beloved Portugal. Farewell to laidback summer days, watching glorious sunsets while sharing a bottle – or two – of crisp Casa Relvas with friends, beautiful beaches, a thriving nightlife, long lunches, and even longer dinners.

As much as I love London’s fast-paced, cosmopolitan lifestyle, my being here is all about work and building up my capital reserves. It can get lonely, but I have to keep my game face on no matter how much I miss my family and friends. I remind myself that my sacrifice will all be worth it in the end.

Being able to pop home for a visit whenever I get leave helps to keep my spirits up and my eye on the prize. As does making periodic deposits into my Portuguese bank account, usually whenever I return home on holiday. I know every deposit brings me another step closer to making my dream a reality.

Financially supporting my parents and sister with regular money transfers also helps me feel like my work efforts are for a good cause. Plus, it helps me shake off the guilt of not being there for them in person.

Until recently, I always used my bank to transfer funds because I believed it was the safest and most cost-effective option. But a chat with a colleague from Belgium about sending money overseas changed all that. She suggested I shop around online for the best exchange rates, fees, and transfer providers.

I’d never before considered that the fees my bank charged me would differ much from those offered by other providers. But I thought it couldn’t hurt to search Google for the best ways to transfer money abroad. Let’s just say; I got plenty of results. Not knowing where to start and not having loads of time to spare to explore every option, I was about to give up on the idea entirely when I spotted the link to MoneyTransfers.com. The sub-heading “Find The Best Money Transfer Providers” caught my eye, so I decided to give it a shot.

Comparing apples with apples

The truth is, when it comes to sending money abroad, not all providers are created equal, and there’s no one best method.

MoneyTransfers.com makes it a snap to navigate the ocean of money transfer providers and compare them based on their:

  • Exchange rates
  • Fees
  • Delivery timelines
  • Security protocols

“Thanks to MoneyTransfers.com, I’ve saved £35 monthly on my regular money transfers plus an additional £15 on the occasional deposits into my personal Portuguese bank account. MoneyTransfers.com has been a lifesaver – or should I say cost-saver. I use it to double-check the best-priced option for me every time I send money home.”
